HARMONY DAY
Each year the students in the Eblana Campus at Mentone Grammar get involved in recognising/celebrating Harmony Day (March 21) . This year we will be holding an assembly and collecting donations which we aim to donate to Oxfam for the support of Australia's indigenous children in area of their education. although we do not expect this will be a huge amount, it is hoped to enlighten our students about teh needs of others in teh broader community. Students will be releasing helium filled Harmony Day Balloons with prayers and wishes for harmony throughout the world.

Have the children/parents involved. #Make wrist bands with Indigenous/Torres Strait colours out of wool for everybody to take home. #Educate the families with explaination about the day just before the song and dance/story time. #Have Indigneous images for the children to paint/colour in #Have natural objects eg: seeds, leaves, twigs for art and craft. #Indigenous puzzles and dolls available for them to interact with. Have the information kits of pamphlets, stickers, wristbands and other promotional materials avaliable for familes.

Aboriginal Gap Analysis Report
The launch of the Aboriginal Gap Analysis Report and workshop. This report provides recommendations for how South East Sydney Illawarra Area Health Services (SESIAHS) can better target and improve access for Aboriginal people who are at increased risk of HIV/AIDS and STIs. The Chief Executive of SESIAHS, Terry Clout will launch the report at 10.30 with a workshop to follow. The event will bring together healthcare workers from community controlled health services (including Aboriginal Medical Services), frontline staff and managers from SESIH Area-based services in HIV/AIDS and sexual health and community members. The dual themes of improving the quality of service delivery and enhancing access opportunities for Aboriginal people will underpin all elements of the day’s program – presentations, group activities and panel discussion.

Launch and Wkshp - Gap Analysis
A gap analysis research project was commissioned by HIV and Related Programs Unit of South Eastern Sydney Area Health Service and was undertaken by the Echidna Group, Indigenous Research and Development Consultancy. The research objectives were to identify characteristics, need and barriers for those not accessing HIV/AIDS/STI services to provide recommendations for how SESIH services can better target/improve Aboriginal access to identify support strategies for the successful implementat-ion of the recommendations. The Report of this research project is the basis of this event. The event will bring together healthcare workers from community- controlled health services (including Aboriginal Medical Services), frontline staff and managers from Area-based services in HIV/AIDS and sexual health and community members. It will provide a forum in which the Report can be endorsed and officially launched by the Chief Executive Officer of the Area Health Service and its recommendations explored in depth by those whose work it impacts most directly. The day’s program will also include a panel comprising representatives from the policy, research and clinical management arenas together with service providers working in the community-controlled sector and in the Area, in order to explore how access to services for this client group can best be improved. The dual themes of improving the quality of service delivery and enhancing access opportunities for Aboriginal people will underpin all elements of the day’s program—presentations, group activities and panel discussion.

The NSW Community Campaigns team from Amnesty International Australia is holding an information session on the 25th of March, which will focus on the ways that the health crisis suffered by Indigenous Australians can be reduced. Rebecca Reeve, who is a research fellow for the Centre for Health Economics Research & Evaluation, will be our guest speaker. The A&TSI Partnership Advisory Council is a group of Indigenous agencies/workers from mainstream, ngos and local Elders working in partnership to help Close the Gap of A&TSI people residing on the Gold Coast. Stalls will be set up by the A&TSI workers to share/educate with others in attendance on what their service offers/what their roles are. Improving Social Determinants of Indigenous Health This conference will bring together case studies from successful programs, which go some way to close the gap in their community. It will bring policy from federal and state government to address how policy can be effectively delivered to the community. It also gives me great pleasure to introduce the Inaugural Excellence in Indigenous Health Awards. To recognise the success and steps made by service providers, communities and individuals working to make a difference in health disadvantage, I to invite you to submit examples of inspiration to the panel of judges.
