Organising your event

So far more than 140,000 Australians have pledged their support to Close the Gap, but there’s still much more to do. You can help raise awareness of the Indigenous health crisis by organising your own Close the Gap day event.
Bringing people together for this event will encourage them to learn more, discuss the issues and take action to achieve Indigenous health equality.

- DIY Event Media Pack (PDF 2.5MB)
- The media is a vital tool in spreading the Close the Gap message to audiences beyond people who attend your event. This guide gives you some advice and a template for preparing your own media release to raise vital public awareness about your event and the Close the Gap campaign.
- Download web banners
- Promote National Close the Gap Day through your organisation or community group (or simply around the home) by downloading a variety of web banners.
- Download campaign materials
- You will receive many campaign resources once you register your event, including a free Close the Gap campaign t-shirt for your event organiser. Check out our Merchandise page for additional resources including posters, stickers, pamphlets, pledge forms, and t-shirts. Many items are free!
- Resources for schools
- The National Close the Gap Day (NCTGD) Schools Kit has been designed to help all Australian schools get involved in NCTGD and is appropriate for all age levels. It includes free Close the Gap materials including posters, stickers, the 2011 Close the Gap DVD and other printed material. Register your school online to receive a free kit, or download our online resources.
- Further resources for National Close the Gap Day 2012 will be available early next year.

Event tips
- Screen the Close the Gap DVD and encourage discussion on the issues it raises. You can also watch it online or download it here
- Read and sign the Close the Gap pledge (PDF, 147KB). You can make your pledge online too
- Decorate your function in a black and white theme
- Spell out Close the Gap in an imaginative way, like attendees did last year at St Patrick’s College at Shorncliffe (see photo at top of page)
- Ask your event participants to write to the Government about Close the Gap
