Volunteer with us
Photo: Lara McKinley/OAusOxfam volunteers are an incredible group of people. Not only do they give their precious time to help us with our goal of ending world poverty, but they also form the backbone of our organisation. Think that’s a line? Well check this out.
Last year 2,025 people volunteered with Oxfam in areas ranging from: customer service, research, editing, translations and administration to name just a few.
At one of our recent major fundraising events, Oxfam TRAILWALKER Melbourne, we had 817 volunteers and with their help the event raised $2.4 million.
Volunteering is key to the success of all our events, particularly Trailwalker:
The Trailwalker event quite simply wouldn’t be the success that it is without the volunteer support on event weekend and in the office pre-event.

Who can volunteer?
Anyone 18 years or over with a pulse!
Why volunteer?
There are too many great reasons but we’ll list a few of the main ones:
- You can meet new and interesting like-minded people, from diverse backgrounds and cultures
- Often you’ll have a chance to enjoy the great outdoors
- You’ll be using your skills to advance a higher purpose
- You will be helping our work to end global poverty and injustice
- You will raise awareness of our organisation and its causes when people ask you what you’re doing
I love volunteering at Oxfam, I feel like I’m contributing to something BIG and important!! Knowing what I know about the world I feel it’s my responsibility to do something to try and improve things, and volunteering is my way.”
– Kate Batchelor, Support Services, Melbourne office
I have found volunteering at Oxfam to be very satisfying and fulfilling. I am in an ‘in-between’ stage of life and working for this organisation gives me a sense of purpose. I feel like my days here are spent doing something important and meaningful.
