Sisters on the Planet
Sisters on the Planet shows the courageous action being taken by women around the world who are leading the response to climate change in their communities. Their stories serve as inspiration for us all to take action.
Climate change
Climate change is affecting everyone, but it's affecting poor people in developing countries the hardest. A number of Pacific island nations have already commenced evacuating their people due to rising sea levels. Australia and other rich developed nations need to do more.
Labour rights
Nike and other sports brands sell running shoes and make huge profits. But the people who actually make the shoes are often not paid enough to meet their families' basic needs.
Mining, oil and gas
The operations of mining companies – including Australian mining companies – can have an enormous impact on the lives as well as environments of local communities, and if done poorly can actually increase poverty and community conflict.
Close the Gap
Victorian Premier John Brumby became the second state premier to sign the "Statement of Intent", committing his government and future Victorian governments to closing the gap on Indigenous life expectancy by 2030. Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu also signed. Now it's time for urgent, positive action on Indigenous health in Victoria.
Create a 'Canvas for Change'
Oxfam Australia invites you to create an artwork that tells the climate change story for vulnerable communities in developing countries. The canvas could represent the climate change impacts faced by these communities, tell the story of them adapting to climate change or look at opportunities and possibilities for the future. People all over the world are taking part in this international project.
in my name
People around the world, from all walks of live are demanding that "in my name", governments meet their commitments help end poverty.
Fair trade
Trade can be a powerful engine for poverty reduction but rigged trade rules and double standards mean trade often traps poor people in poverty. Something's very wrong with world trade. Oxfam's committed to putting it right. Join the growing list of ordinary Australians and Australian companies who have switched to Fairtrade.
Refugees
Across the world an increasing number of people are being forced to flee their homes. We’re working to protect them in crisis situations and ensure their rights are respected.
Development banks
Development banks are major drivers of economic development, especially of large scale infrastructure projects. Operating at an international level, these banks often have different agendas to the realisation of people's human rights.
