adidas in the Offside! report

Oxfam International's report Offside! Labour Rights and Sportswear Production in Asia, published in May 2006, examines how sports brands are tackling the problem of sweatshops in their industry with a particular focus on workers’ freedom to form and join trade unions.

adidas features on pages 2-4,8,10-13,29-33,40-42,54-57,62-65,68-70,75-80, 82,84,101,102

Summary of Oxfam International assessment of adidas

adidas needs to do much more to ensure that trade union rights are respected within its supply chain. It is inconsistent for a company that professes to respect such rights to source more than half of its production in countries where it is legally either impossible or extremely difficult to exercise them.

On the positive side, the company provides its suppliers with a detailed and accurate explanation of trade union rights. It is noteworthy that adidas is the only sports brand with a policy allowing union officers and members to attend training provided by their own organisations and other labour groups.

Shortly after the report's release, the adidas Group posted a statement on its website regarding the report and the situation at PT Panarub, adidas’s supplier factory near Jakarta, Indonesia. Read our response to its statement
