Oxfam Challenge is not your regular package holiday. It is a different way to travel, a real adventure. By cycling or hiking your way through a country you immerse yourself in the culture and get to see places that most travellers miss. As well as seeing some of a destination's known attractions and best kept secrets, your days will also involve impromptu English lessons with friendly locals, socialising with like-minded people, and completing a rewarding physical challenge. On most trips you also get to see the valuable work you are supporting through visiting an Oxfam project.
That's why our past participants agree there is no better way to travel:

Types of Challenges
Some cycling events, such as Vietnam to Cambodia, take place on made roads. The China cycle combines road cycling with some time spent off-road and a short hike also. All events are 12-14 days in duration.

Oxfam Challenge events are all unique. The routes are designed to give participants a chance to see not only some of the best known attractions in the Challenge area, but also some of the best kept secrets. With Oxfam Challenge you really do get off the beaten track and get to see areas most other travelers don’t. While doing this you also get the support of experienced guides as well as medical staff. Where possible you will get to visit a community where Oxfam works and see us in action – something few travelers get to do. Another great part of Challenge is getting to meet people who have similar passions to yourself.
How it works
Oxfam Challenge is run in partnership between Oxfam Australia and Intrepid Travel - one of the leading names in responsible adventure tourism.
To participate you choose a Challenge destination, pay a $300 registration fee, and agree to meet a fundraising target for that destination. This is usually $5000. This is split between covering trip costs (including flights, accommodation, guides and support staff, bike hire, most food and more) and supporting the work of Oxfam Australia.
You will be supported in your fundraising. See our Fundraising FAQs page.
