Vodafone Australia Foundation – making a World of Difference to Trailwalker and OIYP
Long-term Trailwalker supporters, the Vodafone Australia Foundation, became involved with the Oxfam International Youth Partnerships (OIYP) in 2005, when they helped volunteer coordinator Anna Powell ‘donate’ herself to the OIYP program through their World of Difference program. Anna is still a key member of the OIYP team, and the Vodafone Australia Foundation have continued their vital support of OIYP, attending ‘ Taste of the Nation’ gala fundraising dinners and funding a training workshop for IYP Action Partners in Hong Kong in early 2007.
They are also keen Trailwalkers, with teams of walkers, support crews and volunteers at the Sydney events since 2004. Walkers arriving early in the morning to register for the 2006 Sydney Trailwalker were greeted by an enthusiastic and tireless team of Vodafone volunteers (photo below) who sent them off with a spring in their step.
Vodafone Australia Foundation staff use Trailwalker as a team-building and personal development exercise – as Elaine Leong, Oxfam Australia’s partner manager in the Vodafone Australia Foundation and first-time Trailwalker in 2006 said:
“ 100km of rough terrain? Not a problem for our 3 Vodafone teams… Not even a severely rolled ankle, the other severely sprained, a fever lasting 30km could stop my team 'In Hindsight'. Our inspiring 'Red Boots' team that came back to do it the second time round got to the end (yay!) and our power team in 'Intestinal Fortitude" were on fire all the way… Our volunteers had a great time with their cheers and smiles and I know the experience has inspired at least one team already for your 2007 event.”
We look forward to more inspiring work with the Vodafone Australia Foundation in 2007 and beyond!
