The Westpac Group

The Westpac Group and its employees are strong supporters of Oxfam Australia.
Westpac employees have supported Oxfam through holding fundraising events for international appeals, participation in the Oxfam Trailwalker event as volunteers and as walkers, and through the Westpac Matching Gifts program for over ten years.
Through the Westpac Matching Gifts program, the Westpac Group matches donations made by employees dollar for dollar to any tax deductible charity. In the last ten years, Westpac and its employees have contributed over $1.3 million to Oxfam Australia, as well as generous donations of more than $600,000 by the bank to Oxfam’s emergency appeals (Pakistan Floods, China Earthquake, Myanmar (Burma) Cyclone and the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami).
Westpac is currently targeting its support to Oxfam’s international development programs in the Pacific. This has recently included support for the Nana Kundi Counselling Centre in Papua New Guinea, and Disaster Risk Management in Vanuatu. Oxfam is also proud to be one of the most popular charities supported through the Westpac Group's matching gifts program.
Oxfam Australia also has an arrangement with Westpac to provide practical support for emergency appeals to enable donations over the counter at Westpac branches and through internet banking. This originated when Westpac provided vital support for the Oxfam Australia 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami appeal, which generated $9 million in donations given through these channels.
“The Westpac Group began working closely with Oxfam Australia to support their rapid response to the devastating Asian tsunami in 2004,” Westpac’s Head of Community Engagement, Samantha Brown said.
“Since that time, we have supported Oxfam’s relief efforts through many subsequent disasters from the Haiti earthquake, to Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar (Burma), to Typhoon Ketsana in East Asia.
It gives us great confidence to partner with an overseas aid agency like Oxfam, as they’re always at the forefront of international aid and disaster relief in times of crisis.”
