Examples of Current Campaigns
Make Trade FairTrade can be a powerful engine for poverty reduction –if the rules are fair. But the current trading system is heavily weighted in favour of rich countries. Yet if poorer countries were to increase their share of exports by 1%, 128 million people could be lifted out of poverty. Oxfam Australia is part of a global campaign to Make Trade Fair. We are campaigning for changes to trade rules to protect the livelihoods of poor farmers, coffee growers and factory workers. |

MiningMining companies working overseas can damage the environment and undermine the livelihoods of vulnerable communities. Our Mining Ombudsman investigates, exposes and attempts to resolve complaints. We have brought the voices of the vulnerable to the decision-making tables of Australian companies. |

NikeWatchCompanies like Nike sell running shoes and make huge profits. But the people who actually make the shoes –usually poor young women –are often forced to work long hours, and still don't get enough to feed their families. We are directly pressuring Nike, Adidas and Reebok to respect workers' rights to organise unions, collectively bargain, and receive a fair wage. Find more about the NikeWatch Campaign

Campaign Success Stories
- The Make Trade Fair campaign has injected a new dimension into trade debates and strengthened the position of poorer countries in pushing for change. With over 4 million people around the world making a big noise and supporting this campaign. We have also built a government and non-government organisation coalition for reform of the global coffee market.
- As part of our Mining campaign, we have created our own Australian mining industry complaints mechanism. The annual Oxfam Australia Mining Ombudsman's Reports are internationally recognised as a powerful tool for conflict resolution and change within the mining industry.
- Our campaigning helped force global pharmaceutical companies to drop legal action against poor countries producing cheaper generic medicines for tackling diseases like malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDs.
- Following our Education Now! campaign, the World Bank has placed 'education for all' at the centre of its development plans, pledging to achieve universal education by 2015. The Australian government has also increased aid for basic education.
