Christmas trees - Frequently Asked Questions
Can I nominate a specific day and time for my tree to be delivered?
No. However, 98 percent of deliveries to addresses east of the Melbourne CBD will be delivered between 8am and 2pm on Saturday 6 December and 98 percent of deliveries to addresses west of the CBD will arrive between 8am and 2pm on Sunday 7 December.
Don't be concerned if you're not at home, we'll leave the tree in a safe place or follow any direction you write with your order e.g. "leave with Nancy next door at No.36 as we'll be away for the weekend". If you plan to be out for a few hours, just leave a bucket of water in the shade and the volunteer driver will place the tree in the bucket.
Can I pay cash on delivery?
No. Our volunteer drivers only deliver trees that are ordered and paid for prior to delivery and cannot collect money on the day.
What if I'm not happy with my tree?
We offer you a well shaped, green, freshly cut, specially-grown pine Christmas tree approximately 1.75m high. While you can request a slightly smaller or larger tree we cannot guarantee the exact size of the tree you will get. If you are not happy with what you get you will be offered a replacement tree or a full refund.
What if I want the tree delivered to my office but the office is not open at the weekend?
This is a difficult one. Maybe we could deliver the tree to the home of one of the employees who has a roof rack or a station wagon and could bring the tree to work on the Monday. Maybe there is a neighbouring business that trades during the weekend and you could organise for the tree to be left there until you collect it on Monday. Maybe we could drop it over a side/back fence. When you place your order you will be given the opportunity to tell us anything else we need to know about your order.
What if I live in a multi-storey apartment and am not sure if I will be home? (There is nowhere to leave the tree if I am not home)
Please inform one or two or your neighbours about delivery, and give us their unit number(s) in the special instructions box. They may be able to help get the tree past the security entrance and the driver will leave the tree against your front door or with the neighbour who let the driver in. The driver will make every effort to contact you if you include your mobile number but this does assume that the volunteer driver will have a mobile phone with him, which is not always guaranteed.

How will my privacy be respected?
Any details you give us will be guarded with the utmost care. Your details will not be sold or passed on to any third party. You will receive the offer to buy a Christmas tree next year from Oxfam Australia, however, you can be removed from this mailing list by phoning 1800 034 034 or indicate with your order that you don't want to be on any future mailing list. Read our Privacy Statement.
How can I help?
Encourage your colleagues, neighbours, friends and family to buy a tree. Many buy more than one tree and give them as Christmas presents for others. Send an email around your office and direct people to this website. Or send us an email if you have roof racks or a trailer and would like to help with deliveries from Saturday 6 December to Tuesday 9 December. Or you may like to help in the national office leading up to 6 December.
How much of my $60 actually gets to Oxfam Australia?
This project is organised by volunteers who are committed to creating a fairer world. No wages are paid. All the trees are delivered by volunteers and most are from Melbourne 4WD Clubs who donate the use of their vehicle and the fuel as well. Melway have donated directories in past years to ease delivery. The only significant cost is the cost of the tree itself leaving about $40 of your $60 to go directly to Oxfam Australia. If we sell 2,500 trees that's around $100,000 for long-term solutions for people in Indigenous Australian communities and overseas suffering poverty and social injustice.
Where does the money go?
Oxfam Australia works in 24 countries across East Asia and South Asia, Southern Africa, the Pacific and Indigenous Australia, in partnership with local communities to overcome poverty and injustice. Your purchase of a Christmas Tree will support the following projects:
- Mekong Region - Resettlement Project
- International – Mining Ombudsman
- Timor Leste - Wells and Wellbeing
- International - International Crisis Fund (ICF)
- Indigenous Australia - Closing the Health Gap
