Better fishing in Timor-Leste

In Loro, Timor-Leste (formerly East Timor), an Oxfam supported project is helping fishing families to earn a sustainable income from the sea, and overcome poverty.

Francisco da Olivera has learnt how to save, use credit, and improve his fishing skills, thanks to the project.

With this training from Oxfam....I can save money and buy food, I know how to catch good fish and how to prepare ourselves for the future.

“Oxfam provided us with a lot of training.
We learnt how to manage money, how to dry fish, how to use credit, the seasons for good fishing in the sea, training about how to make the boat and building our technical capacity.”

“It is important, because this big boat, it is my life, this is how I make my income."
