United Nations Conference comes to Melbourne August 2010

The United Nations Department of Public Information is to hold its conference this year in Melbourne. The conference will focus on the health MDGs. It is expected that the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki Moon, will attend the conference along with 1500 delegates from around Australia and the world.

This will be a significant opportunity to focus attention on the MDGs and Australia’s contribution towards their achievement. We’ll keep you informed about the conference and events surrounding it as they get closer. It is to be held from 30 August–1 September 2010

2010 Special UN General Assembly meeting on progress towards the MDGs

A special meeting of the United Nations general assembly will be held from 20–22 September to examine how well we’re progressing towards achieving the MDGs. Progress on the MDGs in most areas is falling behind, so this is an opportunity to get the MDGs back on track.

As part of the global mobilisation around this conference the annual Stand Up in support of the MDGs event will a bought forward to 17–19 September so that people around the world can show their determination to achieve the MDGs.

Stand Up

Last year 225,334 Australians and 173 milliion people worldwide stood up to support the MDGs. At this crucial two-thirds point in terms of delivery of the MDGs we want the 2010 Stand Up to be the biggest ever. Mark 17-19 September in your diary.
