Armidale
The 5km Armidale walk took place on Sunday 5 April 2007 starting at the aptly-named Community Garden on a rather pleasant Sunday morning. The route was said to be “just the right distance” for some, as they strolled through parklands to the University of New England and back again. With an enthusiastic crowd afoot, it was no surprise to see one of the participants running the whole way, not once, but twice!
Our thanks to Jo Leoni who has promised next year's walk will be even bigger and better. For more information about the Armidale walk event email jo@bushrock.net
Emmanuel School
The Emanuel School Walk on 25 March 2007 was a great success, with more than 80 people turning out on a rainy Sunday morning. Walking around the school campus, participants were entertained by drummers and guitar players, while many were happy to take their time, stopping to read the posters talking about global poverty and the work of Oxfam Australia.
Eventually, everybody gathered in the school performing arts centre and heard students perform several songs. Some African masks and fabrics were thrown in for flavour.
Our thanks go to the staff, students and friends and family of Emmanuel School for getting involved in the 2007 walk against want and supporting our work in helping people around the world overcome poverty and social injustice.
