Past walks

Emanuel School, Sydney, 2009

On Sunday 22 March 2009 more than 80 students gave up their Sunday morning to take part in the Walk Against Want. Many walkers carried bundles of sticks on their heads to “walk a mile in the shoes” of millions of women and children who do this everyday to collect food and firewood for their families. Our thanks go to David Whitcombe, the staff, students and friends and family of Emmanuel School for supporting our fight against poverty and social injustice.

Manly, Sydney, 2007

On Sunday 6 May 2007, the Oxfam Manly Warringah Group held its eith annual walk against want . The weather was wonderful and we were honored to have Bob Waterer and Manly Mayor Dr Peter Macdonald open the event. View photos form the walk.

Many thanks to the walkers and volunteers for your support, and to the sponsors who helped make this event possible - Manly Council, Oxfam NSW State Committee, Oxfam Trading Shops, Queenscliff Surf Lifesaving Club, John Wooldridge Butchers in Forrestville and IGA.

Armidale, 2007

The 5km Armidale walk took place on Sunday 5 April 2007, starting at the Community Garden on a pleasant Sunday morning. The route was said to be “just the right distance” for some, as they strolled through parklands to the University of New England and back again. With an enthusiastic crowd, it was no surprise to see one of the participants running the whole way, not once, but twice! Our thanks to Jo Leoni who has promised next year's walk will be even bigger and better.
