Past walks
Williamstown and Melbourne Eastern Suburbs
The spectacular autumnal weather turned up to support two different walk against want events on Sunday 20 April 2008. Groups gathered in Williamstown and Blackburn as they enjoyed pleasant strolls and took in some of Melbourne’s most picturesque scenery. Whether strolling past the stunning Williamstown boat harbour or around the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary, registered walkers had a wonderful time knowing that their efforts were raising funds to make a difference in the lives of thousands across the globe.
Our thanks to the organisers and participants of both of these walks; your support of Oxfam Australia is truly appreciated!
Warrnambool
Warrnambool residents came together to raise funds for Oxfam Australia by participating in this year’s walk against want. Enthusiastic community members enjoyed a 5.5km walk through Warrnambool’s stunning landscape, including a section of the walk along Russel’s Creek. The walk against want in Warrnambool has now been running for more than 40 years, and we’re forever overwhelmed by the relentless support shown by the Warrnambool community. Thank you!
Castlemaine
There was a great community spirit for Castlemaine's 12th annual Walk against Want on Sunday 28 October 2007. More than 100 participants of all ages enjoyed the day by walking, running or cycling 5km or10km along bush roads to the north of the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens. Those who wished to do a shorter walk took a stroll around the gardens. The donkeys and a pony walked from Maldon again this year, the children who own them raising almost $700 in sponsorship. The walk was opened by two local stilt walkers and the participants were also treated to performances by two local community choirs, the Chat-Warblers and the Acafellas. There was a fantastic raffle with lots of local prizes and overall the day was extremely successful with around $4,500 raised for Oxfam Australia's work.
Eastern Suburbs
The rainy weather wasn’t enough to keep away more than 300 people for the Eastern Suburbs Walk. Starting at the Scouts Hall in Blackburn South, walkers headed down to the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary for a lap of the lake (some keen walkers even managed a second lap).
Upon their return to the Scouts Hall, walkers were treated to a free sausage sizzle, light refreshments and entertainment including local musicians and a jazz band.
This is one of the biggest walks on the calendar and comes together through the hard work and organising of a number of Groups. Thanks again to the Box Hill Group, the Blackburn Group and the Knox / Heathmont Group for giving us another successful walk event.

Essendon / Williamstown
The Williamstown walk started at the Surf Life Saving Club (aka the “Pearl Bay Courthouse” form TV show Seachange). Participants were given the option to either head east or west for their return trip. Those heading West wound their way past the boat harbour, mangroves, bird hides and lakes while those heading East chose to take in the historical and cultural perspective of the Williamstown foreshore, passing the Time Ball Tower and piers to Nelson Place.
Walkers were treated to some refreshments upon their return to the Clubhouse.
Thanks to the Essendon Group and Williamstown Group for organising this walk event.

Bayside
There were three separate walks taking place at this year’s Bayside Walk Against Want on Sunday April 29 th. Participants turned up for the 5km, 9km and 16km courses all passing along the foreshore areas and taking in breathtaking views of the bay. With those on the two shorter walks exploring the historic Gypsy Village and those extra enthusiastic participants taking the longer course down the original tramway track between Sandringham Station and Beaumaris.
Thanks to the Bayside Group for running another successful walk event in 2007.

Warnambool
From the Blue Hole, across the bridge and over the Hopkins River, 30 walkers headed off on the 2007 Warrnambool Walk Against Want. From there the walk continued along the path to Point Ritchie and returning back along the river to the starting place where refreshments were served. The Walk in Warrnambool is now over 40 years old and we thank the Warrnambool Group for their continued support and for running this event year after year.

Parkville
Despite the weather a good crowd turned up in Parkville to walk against want. Heading away from the south side of Optus Oval, walkers who chose the shorter course walked together for 3.6km around Princes Park while those looking for a bit more of a stretch headed over to Royal Park, taking the scenic route through the native gardens and going past the Royal Melbourne Zoo. Everybody ended up back at Princes Park for light refreshments.
A big thanks to Nerida and those involved in organising this walk event.
