Regional overview
There are 53 countries in Africa, and a myriad of cultures, environments, languages, political landscapes and economies.
Oxfam Australia has been working in Africa since the 1960s. Some themes of our work throughout the continent include:
- Providing clean water
- Emergency relief
- Ensuring communities have enough to eat all year round
- Conflict and reconciliation
- Gender issues
- Preventing HIV and AIDS
- Debt forgiveness.
We take our lead from local non-government organisations, tailoring our programs to the needs of each region. We work with a range of African organisations, from local village programs, to larger provincial, national and inter-country regional programs.
