Spending the funds

The Australian public donated more than $28 million to Oxfam Australia’s tsunami appeal. Combined with money raised by other Oxfam affiliates around the world, Oxfam International will have a total of approximately $287 million globally for its tsunami response work.

Administration of the Oxfam Australia tsunami public appeal funds is co-ordinated through a central Oxfam International mechanism, known as the Oxfam International Tsunami Fund. The Fund ensures transparent and accountable management of public appeal funds from around the world and the fund management team is accountable to the Executive Directors of all 13 Oxfam affiliates.

Our timetable for spending the money is based on a principle of maximising the impact of the funds raised to improve the lives of tsunami-affected people across the region. As at October 2007, $21,671,000 of the funds raised have been spent.
