Jamie Briggs MP shows his support for Make Poverty History

On a very cold and wet evening, members of the Mt Barker community braved the wintery conditions to participate in the Road to 2015 launch.  Mr Jamie Briggs MP, the Federal member for Mayo, generously took time out of his busy schedule to open the exhibition that will be running at the Mt Barker Community Library until the end of August.

At the opening, guests heard from Mr Briggs and  guest speaker James Ensor, the Director of Public Policy and Outreach of Oxfam Australia, discuss the importance of Australia Aid and it’s positive impact on communities overseas.  The Mayor of Mt Barker, Ann Ferguson and Councillors Carol Bailey and Lyn Stokes also took time out of their busy schedules to show their support for Australian Aid overseas and the importance of ensuring the Government reaches its promised target and help half global poverty by 2015.

The world promised in 2000 to halve poverty by 2015, and with only three years left there is still a lot of work to do. The Road to 2015 is a collection of inspiring stories and photos designed to allow the Australian public to learn how Australian aid organizations and people in the community are working with our overseas neighbours to improve the quality of life for those living in poverty.
