3things, Oxfam’s youth movement

Oxfam Australia’s 3things movement aims to build a generation of Australians who are life-long active global citizens.  3things provides opportunities and support to young Australians in creating a just world without poverty.  We have created a range of online activities at 3things.org.au for students to learn about and engage with issues, including resources for the classroom, schoolyard and social situations.

3things works to engage young people by:

  1. Asking questions: 3things offers simple, personal and practical ways for young Australians to increase their awareness of aid and development issues and take positive action.
  2. Supporting action: 3things encourages young people to identify as global citizens and take action in ways that are meaningful to them but have an impact beyond themselves. Responding to these kinds of “bigger-than-self problems” can challenge a person’s sense of identity, but 3things understands and empathises with this.
  3. Spreading the word: 3things is living proof that young Australians not only care and are taking positive action in their own lives, but that they’re calling on government and business to adopt policies and practices that support Oxfam’s vision of a fair world – as well spreading the word among their peers.
