Frequently asked questions

How does it work?

It’s fast, easy and simple. Buy your Christmas tree from the Oxfam Shop website for only $89 and we’ll take care of the rest.

How do I care for my tree?

Your Oxfam Christmas Tree is not any old tree. Sure, it looks great and smells even better, but this tree is extra special because it’s helping to save lives.

And because very special trees require a lot of special care, we’ve put together a set of simple instructions to help keep your tree healthy throughout the festive period.

• TIP 1. Before standing the tree, ensure that the base of the tree is not dry. If the base is dry, it is recommended that the tree stub be re-cut at least 10mm shorter. This allows the water to be absorbed through the trunk more effectively.
• TIP 2. Stand the Christmas tree in fresh water. In the first 24 hours of the tree being in water the tree can drink up to 3 liters of fluids. Ensure that the water levels are kept higher than the base to prevent it from drying out; If at any stage that the base of your tree is out of water for any length of time, your tree will risk drying out sooner.
• TIP 3. Do not leave the Christmas tree in direct sunlight. Some Australian hot days will stress the needles on the tree causing the tree to brown off sooner.

Where does the money go?

Thanks to your generosity, Oxfam can work with partners and communities here in Australia and around the world, on simple, smart solutions to tough humanitarian problems.

When will my tree be delivered?

The majority of trees will be delivered between the 3 and 5 December. If your order was placed after the 28 November, you can expect to receive your tree between 10 and 11 December. Delivery information confirmed closer to date.

Can I nominate a specific day and/or time for my tree to be delivered?

No. In the main our delivery drivers are volunteers, and can only deliver on the dates specified.

What if I live in a multi-story apartment and am not sure if I will be home? (there is no where to leave the tree if I am not home)

Please make arrangements with a neighbour who can assist with the delivery, and mention this in the delivery notes for your order. As our delivery drivers are all volunteers, we can’t guarantee specific delivery times or call prior to delivery.

Can you deliver to areas/on days outside of those specified?

If you live outside our delivery area please email us and we’ll advise whether a special delivery arrangement can be made. Our delivery drivers are mostly volunteers, and can only deliver on the dates specified.

What if I want the tree delivered to my office but the office is not open at the weekend?

Please email us and we’ll advise whether a special delivery arrangement can be made.

Can you deliver my trees to various addresses?

Yes, but you will need to place a separate order for each delivery address. This means placing the order for the first delivery address, paying for it, logging out and then starting afresh and placing a new order for the next delivery address.

Can I pay cash on delivery?

No. Our volunteer drivers only deliver trees that are ordered and paid for prior to delivery and cannot collect money on the day.

I live interstate — can I still buy a tree from you?

If you live outside greater metro Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne (plus Werribee, Frankston, Melton and the Geelong) areas, unfortunately we cannot supply you with a Christmas tree.

How big will my tree be?

We offer you a well-shaped, green, freshly cut, specially grown pine Christmas tree approximately 1.7m – 2m high. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee the exact size of the tree.

What if I’m not happy with my tree?

Please contact our Supporter Services team on 1800 088 110.

Will you provide me with a stand for my tree?

No, however stands are readily available at hardware or Christmas supplies stores.

Will my tree be collected after Christmas?

Unfortunately, we don’t collect trees after Christmas. This enables us to keep the cost of our trees low. Please contact your local council for more details on how to correctly dispose of your tree.

What if I don’t have a credit card?

We’re sorry, unfortunately we are not accepting cheque/money order payments this year due to administration costs.

What if I don’t like giving my card details over the internet?

You can print the order form (available from 28 Oct) and send it to the Oxfam Australia Christmas Tree team, 132 Leicester St, Carlton, VIC 3053. The form must arrive by Friday 25 November. Alternatively you can fax the form along with your credit card details to (03) 9347 1983 by Friday 25 November. Read more about how we secure your information.

How will my privacy be respected?

Oxfam Australia is committed to protecting your privacy. Read our Privacy Statement.

How much of my $89 actually gets to Oxfam Australia?

This project was originally an initiative of the Oxfam Group Fitzroy, and is predominantly organised and staffed by volunteers who are committed to creating a fairer world. Many of the trees are delivered by volunteers, most of whom are members of  4WD Clubs. These generous volunteers donate the use of their vehicle and the fuel as well.

As a result of this generous support, over $50 from each tree sold is donated to Oxfam Australia.

Where does the money go?

Oxfam works in 94 countries around the world and in Indigenous Australia to overcome poverty and injustice. Your purchase of a Christmas tree will support our long-term development work.

How can I help?

Encourage your colleagues, neighbours, friends and family to buy a tree. Send an email around your office and direct people to this website. Or send us an email if you have roof racks or a trailer and would like to help with deliveries between Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December.

Alternatively, you may like to help in the Oxfam office in the lead up to Christmas. Please visit Oxfam’s volunteer section.

Can I sell trees on your behalf at my Christmas fete/stall/fundraising event?

We would be happy to provide you with order forms that you are welcome to hand out at your events, as well as directing people to our website.

Thank you and Merry Christmas!
