Keen to raise money for Oxfam Australia, but still not sure what kind of event you want to organise? Ever considered cycling around the world or circumnavigating the globe on foot?

Here are some ideas for the truly adventurous among you, courtesy of some of our most intrepid fundraisers…

Cycle Strongman — one man’s odyssey to explore the globe

Having commenced in March 2009, the Cycle Strongman Expedition (CSX) is a monumental challenge both physically and mentally. The eight-year odyssey will involve cycling around the globe (crossing each continent including Australia, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Americas); sailing across two oceans and eight seas; and, if luck, health and good winds have it, lead all the way back home again.

The Cycle Strongman Expedition is looking to raise $1 for every kilometre travelled ($100,000!) over the eight-year duration of the expedition. 100% of all donations received go directly to Oxfam Australia.

Tom’s Next Step — a race around the world

Imagine trying to run 700 marathons in 700 days! Well, that is exactly what Australian Tom Denniss, founder of OceanLinx renewable energy company, ex-professional rugby league player and long-term Oxfam supporter, is in the process of doing right now.

This incredible challenge will take the Sydneysider across every continent, except Antarctica, through deserts, mountains, and snow, and see him set a Guinness World Record for the “fastest circumnavigation of the earth on foot”.

Tom hopes his challenge will help to raise awareness about global poverty as well as a massive $100,000 for our food security program in South Africa.

Cycling About — young, adventure-hungry bike enthusiasts

Together, Alex Denham and Kat Webster are Alleykat: a pair of young, rambunctious, adventure-hungry bike enthusiasts from Melbourne who are planning to ride their touring bikes from Amsterdam all the way home via Europe, the Middle East, Asia, South-East Asia and wherever else takes their fancy along the way.

Alex is a young larrikin who loves bikes and travel. Ever since he left the hiking pack at home and decided to travel with a bike — panniers filled with awesome — he hasn’t looked back!

Kat or Kitty (or whichever variation of the feline moniker you prefer) is an excitable, intense, energetic and love-filled cat. She is a new-comer to the world of bike touring, but a great enthusiast none-the-less — and is especially thrilled about the opportunity to travel the world and raise money for important things while doing it.

You are cordially invited to join them on this two-year journey by living vicariously through their adventures and by helping them raise funds for their favourite organisation, Oxfam.
