Children’s Ground

Children’s Ground is taking a leading on-the-ground role in helping to Close the Gap in Kakadu West Arnhem, in the Northern Territory.

Partnering with local Aboriginal Peoples, Children’s Ground is working with communities experiencing some of the greatest disadvantage in Australia.

Children’s Ground takes an intergenerational approach to alleviating poverty and disadvantage; this means integrating and delivering a system of high quality programs and services for kids ranging from early childhood through to emerging adults, as well as their families.

Importantly, these health, education, economic and community development programs and services are delivered in the way that respects and supports existing Aboriginal cultural practices and beliefs.

“It’s the main thing [we’re wanting] for our young kids, learning, both ways, Balanda [non-Aboriginal] and Bininj [Aboriginal] …,” says Mark Djandjomerr, Co-Director Children’s Ground, Kakadu West Arnhem.

“We are passing on our knowledge to our kids … We want to be strong with our spirit, with our mind …”
