Independent Review of Aid effectiveness

On 2 February 2011, Oxfam Australia provided a submission to the Independent Review of Aid Effectiveness, established by the Australian Government to review Australia’s aid program and guide the future direction of aid policy. The first review 15 years, this was a great opportunity for Oxfam and other organisations to remind the government of the bipartisan commitment to the world’s poorest people.

In May 2011 we applauded the Government’s move to increase the aid budget and stay on track to fulfil its promise to help the world’s poorest people.

We’ll continue to work with the Government to ensure Australia’s aid budget is spent effectively, and to encourage all government agencies that deliver aid to work towards the same objectives.

There are a range of things that can be done to ensure the effectiveness of Australia’s aid program, and a significant body of experience to guide this work – from international aid effectiveness agreements to academic research to real-life stories, like that of the waste pickers in Pune.
