Seven years after the Syria crisis began, at least 400,000 Syrians have been killed and over 13 million are in desperate need of humanitarian aid. More than half of the population – nearly 12 million people – have fled from their homes. More than 5.6 million refugees are living in neighbouring countries, the majority in extreme poverty. The overwhelming majority of these refugees are women and children.
This is a crisis of staggering proportions, one that requires a massive international humanitarian response.
Over the last year, Oxfam estimates it helped more two million people in Syria as well as refugees and the communities in which they are sheltering in Jordan and Lebanon. This has included providing safe drinking water, sanitation and vital food aid as well as helping refugees make a living.
But the crisis continues to escalate. Please donate today.
Note: Should the funds raised exceed the amount required to meet the immediate and longer term needs of the people in the affected areas, Oxfam Australia will direct donations to our International Crisis Fund to enable us to rapidly address emergencies as they occur.
