Oxfam Walk Against Want returns to its early community roots in 2007. Community groups will be running the event this year and will fundraise for Oxfam Australia in order to assist disadvantaged people in over 28 countries and in Indigenous Australia. Enthusiastic supporters will get the first walks underway in the ACT, VIC, TAS, WA and NSW in April and May. Oxfam Australia is making a real difference to the lives of people in poor communities across the world. However, the support of ordinary individuals is crucial to finding solutions to poverty and social injustice. The money that Walk supporters raise will go a long way in the fight against poverty and the root causes of poverty. Just $20 can enable a child from a poor Sri Lankan family to go to school for one month; $70 pays for a Cambodian village livestock agent to receive training in animal care and vaccinations; $100 can buy a bicycle for a volunteer carer to reach and help a greater number of villagers in Zimbabwe.
