Cyclone Idai Emergency

In March of 2019 Cyclone Idai, coupled with Cyclone Kenneth in Northern Mozambique about 6 weeks later, devastated the lives of more than 2.6 million people in Southern Africa. Heavy rains caused massive flooding across the region, destroying people’s homes and washing away their livestock and crops. More than 1,000 people were killed in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe.

Oxfam’s work

Working with our partners we trucked in clean water and distributed water treatment and hygiene kits that contained items such as buckets, soaps, jerry cans and menstrual hygiene kits to prevent and contain cholera and other waterborne diseases. In Mozambique alone we were able to reach over 600,000 people.
