December appeal
CLEAN WATER IS NOT A GIFT. IT’S A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT.
Mothers in Niger urgently need clean water to give their sick and dying babies a chance at life.
The lack of clean water has made malnutrition — already Niger’s biggest killer — an even deadlier crisis.
“The baby suffered so long … there was nothing I could do … I was absolutely despairing …. I’m sure if she’d been better supported, she might have survived.”
Mariama’s baby Fatima tragically died of malnutrition.
Oxfam’s work shows how it’s the simplest things — clean water, toilets, proper hygiene — that save lives and lift families out of despair.
“Today my little girl is well … she’s eating well, and can even eat the same as everyone else, a little millet porridge, some fruit, everything she’s given.”
When Binta’s baby took ill she received medicine, food, clean water and a hygiene kit from Oxfam. She survived.
