Behind the Seams
April 24 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm - Carlton, Victoria
IMPORTANT NOTICE: EVENT CANCELLED.
Update 18 March 2020:
‘Behind the Seams – an evening with the women who make our clothes’ (24 April 2020) has been cancelled by Oxfam Australia in light of the current state and national measures to contain the transmission of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The What She Makes team are really disappointed the event is unable to occur. We were really looking forward to hearing directly from the women connected to the garment sector in Bangladesh and sharing their stories with you all.
Our concern is for the health and safety of the three Bangladeshi women who were travelling to Australia, and for the community of What She Makes activists who were so keen to attend.
Stay tuned for more ways you can stand with the women who make our clothes and show your support for What She Makes.
Take care of yourselves and be kind to one another in these difficult times.
Previous Event Details (now Cancelled)
Behind the Seams is a rare opportunity to hear directly from three strong women from Bangladesh deeply connected to the fight for a fairer fashion industry: one of the women who makes our clothes, a garment sector unionist and a women’s rights activist. They will also be joined by an industry expert.
What She Makes demands big Australian clothing brands make a real commitment to paying a living wage, with a timeline to reach key milestones. A living wage would lift millions of the women who make our clothes, and their families, out of poverty.
The evening will begin with a light refreshments, then you will hear from our special guest MC and speakers. There will also be a chance to ask questions.
