    Humanity is not negotiable

Across the Middle East, thousands of innocent people are being killed, injured and displaced every day, while the global economy is being upended. All for a pointless and illegal war driven by ego and political games.

In the pursuit of power and influence, the US and Israeli governments are flagrantly breaching international law by bombing civilians, schools and hospitals, while heavily restricting both the funding and the freedom of humanitarian organisations to help. The Iranian government’s retaliatory actions, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, are already impacting people around the world.

Years of conflict and economic collapse have deepened poverty - destroying livelihoods and forcing repeated displacement. This latest escalation is compounding the suffering of people who have already been forced to rebuild over and over again.

Amidst lies, casual threats over social media and everchanging ‘objectives’, these governments have lost sight of the people who suffer the violence wrought by their actions. By avoiding direct criticism of the governments committing these heinous acts, the Australian Government is complicit.

This is not the time to stand back. Yet our own government rushed to support the attacks on Iran and is failing to call out all the parties which are responsible for atrocities happening every day.

Our humanity is measured by how we respond to the suffering of others. It’s time for the Australian government to show theirs.  We demand they:

    • Stand by humanity and call for immediate de-escalation and a sustained ceasefire by all parties, to stem the widespread human suffering across the region

    • Uphold the rules-based order, and hold rogue actors to account for their attacks on civilians and numerous breaches of international law

    • Urgently increase humanitarian assistance to the region, provide lifesaving support to the people most affected by violence and champion unimpeded humanitarian access for the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the region

    • Cease the transfer of arms; equipment, including spares and components, ammunition and munitions; intangible exports and services to all parties to the conflict, where there is a clear or overriding risk that they might be used in the commission of serious violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) or Human Rights Law (HRL), including acts of violence committed by settlers in an environment of impunity.

Sign the petition now and demand the Prime Minister speak out against these crimes and stand for what so many Australians know is right.

Tell the Australian government that war crimes are not negotiable. Lives are not negotiable. Humanity is not negotiable.
