Brisbane on the trail to ending poverty

In just a few short years, Oxfam Trailwalker Brisbane has become one of Queensland’s premier outdoor events, raising in excess of $3 million and leaving a life-affirming footprint on the hundreds of teams, supporters and volunteers who have been involved. This week, registrations opened for the fourth Oxfam Trailwalker Brisbane event.

Oxfam Trailwalker is one of the most inspiring team challenges in the world. Teams of four journey through 100km of bush trail within 48 hours. Each team has to start together, stick together and finish together — it’s tough, but with the right training and attitude participants are amazed at what they can achieve.

Oxfam Trailwalker is a life-changing experience; as well as being an incredible physical and mental challenge, every step helps raise vital funds to support people living in poverty. Between 20-22 June 2014, 400 teams will tackle the beautiful and challenging trail that travels through scenic D’Aguilar National Park and Mt Coot-tha Forest.

New 55km option

For the first time in Australia, a variation has been introduced in Brisbane with participants being offered a secondary distance option of 55km.

These teams will walk alongside their 100km counterparts, but start one day later and 45kms down the trail. They will have 24 hours to complete the challenge. This year we’ve set a high goal for fundraising, with the Brisbane event aiming to raise $1.6 million in support of Oxfam’s work around the world.

Oxfam Trailwalker gives people the chance to do something truly extraordinary – for both themselves and for others. It’s a personal challenge and an experience in what’s possible, as well as an opportunity to bond with friends, to be out in nature and to get fit. Most importantly, it’s the chance to make an impact and support people living in poverty.

As Bree, an Oxfam Trailwalker 2013 participant, commented, “It was the most amazing experience of my life. I loved every minute of it”.

Registrations are now open for both the 100km in 48 hours and 55km in 24 hours options. If teams sign up before 31 December they can enjoy a special early-bird registration fee of $500 for the 100km option and $350 for the 55km option.

Registrations are also open for the Melbourne event and are filling up fast. You can register a team for the Melbourne event here.
