Behind the Brands
Since February 2013, Oxfam’s looked at the agricultural sourcing policies of the world’s 10 largest food and beverage companies. Twice a year, we create a scorecard evaluating their performance on seven key themes:
- Transparency at a corporate level
- The treatment of workers on farms in the supply chain
- The treatment of small-scale farmers growing the commodities
- The treatment of women farm workers and small-scale producers in the supply chain
- Land, both rights and access to land and sustainable use of it
- Water, both rights and access to water resources and sustainable use of it
- Climate, both relating to reducing green house gas emissions and helping farmers adapt to climate change

Behind the Bands focuses exclusively on publicly available information that relates to sourcing agricultural communities from developing countries. Oxfam also examines the way the big brands expect their suppliers to behave on these issues, and what they do to measure and improve their impact on every worker and farmer who makes their ingredients.
