Syria Crisis Appeal
March 2014 will mark three years since the conflict in Syria began, during which time more than 100,000 Syrians have been killed and 2.5 million people forced to flee the country. This is a crisis of staggering proportions, one that requires a massive international humanitarian response. The families affected by this crisis are desperate to be free from violence and gain access to the aid they need.
Over 9.3 million people, nearly half the country’s pre-war population of 21 million, are in need of humanitarian assistance in Syria. Of those, 6.5 million people have been forced to flee their homes living in temporary accommodation.
Oxfam has helped nearly 900,000 people across Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon. We have been working to meet the needs of those affected by providing safe drinking water to over 570,000 people. In Lebanon and Jordan we have distributed blankets, warm clothes, fuel and heating stoves to nearly 2,000 refugee households to help brace against the bitterly cold winter.
With over 9.3 million Syrians in need of humanitarian aid, your donation is essential to help Oxfam provide access to food, water and sanitation. All families should have access to these life-saving basics. Please donate today.
Note: Should the funds raised exceed the amount required to meet the immediate and longer term needs of the people in the affected areas, Oxfam Australia will direct donations to our International Crisis Fund to enable us to rapidly address emergencies as they occur.
