Naidoc Week 2022 Oxfam's History Working with First Peoples

The first week of July marks the start of NAIDOC Week, where we celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NAIDOC Week isn’t just for Indigenous communities, it’s also an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate one of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

After years of COVID restrictions which have impacted NAIDOC week celebrations, we’re delighted to invite you to celebrate with us.

This year’s NAIDOC theme – “Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!” – is a reminder that enough is enough, the time for real and meaningful change is now. This year’s poster was designed by Ryhia Dank, a young Gudanji/Wakaja artist from the Northern Territory.

With help from our supporters, Oxfam Australia has been working to advance First Peoples’ rights for more than 47 years.

From working with First Peoples to support their rights during the Noonkanbah dispute of the late 1970s, to launching our Straight Talk program a decade ago to promote women’s participation in politics.

This is all thanks to your support, helping us work towards First Peoples’ justice and equality in Australia.

We’d like to invite you to join NAIDOC Week celebrations around the country. You can find a list of activities in your area here: https://www.naidoc.org.au/local-events/local-naidoc-week-events

We hope that you’ll Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! with us to walk in solidarity and amplify the voices of and push for the proper recognition of First Peoples’ rights.
